SARCOMATA OF THE OSTEOGENIC SERIES (OSTEOSARCOMA, FIBROSARCOMA, CHONDROSARCOMA, PAROSTEAL OSTEOGENIC SARCOMA, AND SARCOMATA ARISING IN ABNORMAL BONE). AN ANALYSIS OF 552 CASES.

摘要: Osteogenic sarcoma is a convenient and generically correct designation for all skeletal conective-tissue neoplasms of mesenchymal origin including: osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, parosteal osteogenic sarcoma, sarcomata arising in Paget's disease, irradiated bone, Osteochondroma, fibrous dysplasia, or other bone disease. This report summary the clinical, histopathological, roentgenographic findings, treatment end-results 552 cases sarcoma. Factors which have no influence on prognosis are age, sex, origin, trauma, occurrence fracture. Factors do include: histological type tumor size, preoperative postoperative serum alkaline Phosphatase elevations, lymph-node involvement, treatment. Absolute five-year survival figures varied from 0.0 per cent disease to 82 sarcoma; types were as follows: 13.2 cent; 28.1 31.7 secondary 67 cent. Only chondrosarcoma did grading correlate with prognosis; patients low-grade medium-grade having considerably better rates than those high-grade tumors. The incidence late failures (patients dying more five years after diagnosis) showed an inverse relationship survival. Prognosis directly tumnor patient osteosarcoma fibrosarcoma greater 15.0 centimeters greatest dimension was cured. When examination surgical specimen revealed metastases, outcome always fatal. Radical ablative surgery only curative therapy sarcoma. Irradiation sole not cure single patient. Preoperative irradiation followed by radical attended worse alone. Two unilateral lung metastasis cured lobectomy. Adjuvant chemotherapy perfusion administered prior might be considered future investigative protocols.
