摘要: Wildlife managers are concerned that insecticides used to control mosquitoes could suppress invertebrates on which wildlife feed. We assessed whether ultra-low volume (ULV) applications of pyrethrin, permethrin, and malathion for adult reduced macroinvertebrate abundance biomass or killed mosquitofish in seasonal wetlands California. Pyrethrin was applied over 3 Sutter National Refuge (NWR), permethrin were each 2 the Colusa NWR. Three per site. measured aquatic before after insecticide application compared survival mosquito larvae held sentinel cages. At Colusa, we also as sentinels, caged test pesticide efficacy drift, sampled night-flying insects using ultraviolet light traps. Results showed no detectable reductions macroinvertebrates treated wetlands. Larval high all areas. All died when with but survived controls. survived. Flying insect decreased both rebounded 48 h. indicated ULV these unlikely have substantial effects fish
