摘要: A model is proposed for estimating water depths from thicknesses of pro-grading coarsening-upward barrier island and deltaic sequences. The prograding sequence consists a basal lower shoreface mudstone overlain by middle interbedded sandstone, capped sandstone complex beach-upper coastal dune. Sea level coincides with the base accretionary cross-stratified foreshore beach sandstone. Sediment thickness this sea-level datum to same as depth into which barriers prograded. pro-delta claystone delta-front mudstone, delta-plain sandstones other facies in sea can be recognized. claystones deltas Constraints on are compaction, subsidence, transgressions, but these not difficulty, provided method applied care. Preliminary data indicates approximate 2.5 12.1 m Pennsylvanian Cretaceous barriers, 10 24 cratonic deltas, 31 89 Carboniferous basinal deltas.
