摘要: 1. Body feather samples from preserved study skins held in museum collections and contemporary specimens of a range species adult seabirds the north north-east Atlantic were analysed for mercury order to assess historical trends contamination marine environment with this toxic heavy metal. 2. Problems through application inorganic many as preservative overcome by methyl extraction (Thompson & Furness 1989a,b). 3. Fulmars Fulmarus glacialis (L.) both St. Kilda Shetland/Orkney exhibited significant declines concentrations associated pronounced dietary change over period. 4. Other showed general increase burdens, particularly towards south west Britain. 5. Increased pluvial deposition atmospheric specific oceanic areas, jet-streams pollution northern hemisphere mercury, is suggested being likely cause observed trends. 6. The use time-series samples, coupled method used study, offer great potential elucidating changes other environments.
