摘要: This study encompassed work on four of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) licensed discharge points at Port Kembla Steelworks (PKSW). These included North Gate Drain, Main Flat Products East No.1 Drain and Ironmaking Drain. incorporated a hydrological drains, stormwater water quality study. The aims component were: to obtain an understanding behaviour each these drains during rainfall events; determine fractions runoff compared volume; influence antecedent precipitation has drain; and, relate findings catchment type. concentrations priority pollutants in wet weather first flush; likely source any borne contaminants; use data appropriate licence limits. were developed assist design further investigations involving management PKSW. 16 months monitoring involved collection over 1300 samples. that Iron Making displayed very similar characteristics events. Both exhibit ‘flashy’ hydrographs, with fast response rainfall, steep recession curves where return ‘baseline’ or process flow is rapid. fraction total volume (falling catchment) for both was high (>80%). Their small catchments, containing almost entirely sealed impervious surfaces, led losses. volumes, found be unaffected by rainfall. have delayed hydrographs slow receding elevated continued hours after events had ceased. small, indicating large losses infiltration percolation groundwater recharge via relatively grassed unsealed, pervious areas within catchment. An anomaly this due overestimations rates from online
