A Package Deal?: African American Men's Perspectives on the Intersection of Marriage and Fatherhood

摘要: In response to decreasing marriage rates among childbearing couples, public policy has sought reinforce the notion that and fatherhood are a package deal. However, what remains unclear is whether ideology values of policymakers promoting as deal represent men targeted by initiatives. an attempt respond this question, preliminary study presents findings from qualitative analysis 33 African American adult males’ attitudes toward romantic relationships. The revealed most sample conceptualized deal, but many men’s transition was facilitated their engaged fathering, which contrary philosophy espoused in initiatives promoted movement. This disconnect its implications for also discussed.
