摘要: IN a recent paper, Allsopp1 has suggested that the old ‘poison' hypothesis for action of ionizing radiation on living cells might be revived in terms ‘hydroxyl radical' as specific poison. Results experiments bacteriophage S13, undertaken at instigation and with support late Dr. D. E. Lea, suggest certain vitro experiments, least, indirect effects radiation, poison quite direct will explain results satisfactorily, being hydrogen peroxide. As been pointed out2, fact peroxide is formed irradiated water itself requires explanation theory such Weiss3 ; but it become evident all observed facts ‘indirect' this particular phage are fitted by when dilute solution radiations inactivate it. The following explanation.
