摘要: Abstract Background Within the context of an ageing health workforce it is important to gain a greater understanding motivations young people (aged less than 21 years) choose career in midwifery. Aim To explore reasons why students decided study midwifery and enrol one Australian Bachelor Midwifery program. Method A descriptive exploratory qualitative design was used. Eleven aged years on enrollment participated semi-structured tape-recorded interview. The transcribed interviews were analysed using thematic analysis. Findings Direct indirect exposure positive constructions childbirth as well midwives role fuelled student's fascination with drove their desire enrol. While some entered studies result ‘love babies’ others took more pragmatic ‘wait see’ approach about choice. Many however clearly distinguished from nursing demonstrating intention be midwife rather nurse. This decision often place within opposition family, school social networks where public discourse continued reinforce preferred pathway Conclusion Creating opportunities for exposed models may increase number entering There also need information provided careers officers assist them understand distinction between nursing.
