摘要: Background/Aims: Studies from mainly Caucasian populations have shown epidemiological evidence of an association between diabetes mellitus and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The aim this study was to determine whether any such exists in a black African population with mellitus. Method: This cross sectional consecutive diabetic patients seen at the clinic University Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu, September 1, 2004 April 30, 2005. Patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy during same period for dyspeptic symptoms were used as controls after matching age sex. Structured questionnaire on risk factors HCV infection administered participants. Blood test antibodies carried out well control subjects. Results: Out 191 patients, 27(14.1%) antibody positive compared group which 5 134 (3.7%) subjects had (p = 0.0046). Conclusion: is more common Nigerian than subjects. nature remains be elucidated.
