摘要: Intrinsic biological mechanisms transduce psychological stress into physiological adaptation, but the role of mitochondria and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in this process has not been defined humans. Here, we show that similar to physical injury, triggers elevation circulating cell-free mtDNA (ccf-mtDNA). Healthy midlife adults exposed on two separate occasions a brief challenge exhibit 2-3-fold increase ccf-mtDNA, with no change nuclear levels, establishing magnitude specificity ccf-mtDNA. In cell-based studies, glucocorticoid signaling - consequence humans is sufficient induce extrusion time frame consistent human psychophysiology. Collectively, these findings provide first evidence induces ccf-mtDNA implicate as trigger for release. Further work needed examine functional significance stress-induced mitokine
