摘要: There is increasing evidence that there exists a class of adsorbate-induced reconstructions metal surfaces in which the outermost substrate layer (or layers) and adsorbed species adopt an almost identical geometry on several different orientations same substrate; one orientation this involves little or no distortion, but others, major reconstruction required. also adsorption structure unreconstructed surface may have particularly low free energy. This type therefore appears to offer atomistic alternative more microscopic phenomenon faceting. By reviewing existing structural information concerning adsorbate structures S Ni, Cu Pt, C N Ni O Cu, for idea, some complementary patterns reconstruction, are discussed. These data long-range-ordered phases (100), (111) (110) faces these materials compared with limited available influence adsorbates anisotropy energy, gamma -plot.
