摘要: The charts of 5,019 previously untreated patients with squamous cell carcinoma the upper respiratory and digestive tracts who completed treatment for cure from January 1948 through August 1973, were reviewed. These had no evidence distant metastases when initially evaluated. Five hundred forty-six developed clinical metastases. overall incidence was 10.9%, varying 3.1% vocal cord cancers to 28.1% cancer nasopharynx. lungs bones most common first sites metastases, accounting 52% 20.3% respectively, whereas mediastinum (2.9%) rare. Forty-eight percent detected within nine months after 80% two years. rate increased stage (2% Stage I 19.5% IV). also T N classification; however, greater influence on than stage. significantly higher there a recurrence above clavicles (16.7%) (7.9%, less 0.001). In whose primary lesion treated by radiotherapy or surgery alone, essentialy same. Patients receiving postoperative irradiation double preoperative group (20.1% vs 9.9%--p .005); sequence modalities not randomized.
