摘要: For multiuser communications networks, lightwave technology offers the potential to supply a pool of capacity — be shared among users far above that provided by any alternative technology. However, bandwidth limitation electro-optic converters needed attach each user optical medium prevents one from accessing more than tiny fraction overall capacity. This paper discusses problems with conventional approaches for tapping contained within band. It then proposes new network architecture permits lightwave's vast without requiring technological breakthrough. With this approach, it becomes possible create networks offer hundreds thousands gigabits-per-second total capacity, users, limited peak rate 1 Gb/s.
