摘要: The structure of communities is influenced by many processes, both ecological and evolutionary, but the influence these processes on biodiversity patterns often remains unclear. aim this work to distinguish footprint differing formulations competition environmental filtering from that neutral are invariant species identity. We build our "massive eco-evolutionary synthesis simulations" (MESS), which uses information three axes - richness abundance; population genetic diversity; trait variation in a phylogenetic context between with mechanistic model. add new form MESS explicitly compares traits each pair individuals, allowing us inter- intra-specific competition. find addition essential properly detect characterise competition, yielding different results than existing simpler model only community mean. selection forces receive much less support real systems when data available incorporated into inference algorithm.
