摘要: The tensile force existing in the pericarp of a growing citrus (Citrus sinensis) fruit 17 to 19 centimeters circumference was sufficiently high cause 3% shrinkage when it excised. When cut along equator central axis, resulted formation wedge-shaped gap at cut. Stretch modulus determined by measuring required stretch excised strips tissue 1% longer than their length. Measurements were made on successive layers 5 millimeters wide and 1 millimeter thick taken from equator. All more for extension lower temperatures water potentials low potentials. ranged 0.88 2.16 kilograms per square depending upon layer, temperature, potential. inner layers, consisting primarily mesocarp, had moduli only 60 70% as great outer layer which consisted exocarp tissue. tissues support hypothesis that changes tension depend conditions are not related volume or pressure juice vesicles.
