摘要: I have lived in San Francisco while working as a full-time virtual faculty member for Michigan State University nearly six years. Unlike most humans, spend larger proportion of every day person than physical person. This article is adapted from keynote speech delivered at the Fourth International Workshop on Presence Philadelphia May 2001. use personal narrative style to explore issues and question some research community's prevailing assumptions about presence.Lombard Ditton's (1997) frequently cited conceptualization defines presence "perceptual illusion nonmediation" that occurs "when fails perceive or acknowledge existence medium his/her communication environment responds he/she would if were not there." The underlying assumption that, absence technology, everyone experiences continuous constant intensity throughout their lives.Instead, this suggests everyday nonmediated experience. Careful consideration unmediated (real) might help study mediated presence.
