A fumonisin biosynthetic gene cluster in Fusarium oxysporum strain O-1890 and the genetic basis for B versus C fumonisin production

摘要: Most species of Fusarium that produce fumonisin mycotoxins predominantly B fumonisins (FBs). However, oxysporum strain O-1890 produces C (FCs). In this study, the nucleotide sequence biosynthetic gene (FUM) cluster in was determined. The order and orientation FUM genes were same as previously described clusters verticillioides proliferatum. Coding regions F. 88-92% identical, but flanking did not share significant identity. FUM8 encodes an alpha-oxoamine synthase, fum8 mutants do fumonisins. Complementation a mutant with verticillioidesFUM8 restored FB production. oxysporumFUM8 also production, produced FCs. These data indicate different orthologues determine whether FBs or
