摘要: The theme of this paper is the use optical spectroscopy to diagnose invisible pre-cancer in patients undergoing endoscopy and similar medical procedures. We describe three techniques that provide diagnostic information two instruments implement them, FastEEM for studying small regions tissue LSS (light scattering spectroscopy) imaging system wide-area surveillance. an fiber clinical device collects spectra reflected light fluorescence at multiple excitation wavelengths from tissue, all a fraction second. Quantitative obtained real time, without removing need staining fixation. Three types spectral are extracted intrinsic fluorescence, diffuse reflectance elastic scattering. Each analyses based on biophysical model, each provides complementary quantitative physical chemical about cellular/tissue structures. This used make combined diagnosis, method we call tri-modal (TMS). Promising studies being carried out routine surveillance oral cavity, uterine cervix gastrointestinal tract. spectroscopic images epithelium, typically 2 cm dimension, depicting size distribution chromatin content cell nuclei, which key parameters diagnosing pre-cancer. instrument preclinical stages development, although laboratory prototype has been create resected colon polyp samples. combination TMS/FastEEM will constitute powerful new tool, with wide area TMS probe detailed suspect sites.
