摘要: Background Introduction of the laparoscopic surgical technique has reduced hospital stay after colonic resection from about 8–10 to 4–6 days. In most studies, however, specific attention not been paid changes in perioperative protocols required maximize advantages minimally invasive procedure. present study approach was combined with a multimodal rehabilitation protocol. Methods After laparoscopically assisted resection, patients were treated epidural local anaesthesia for 2 days, early mobilization and enteral nutrition. Routine use morphine traditional tubes, drains prolonged bladder catheterization avoided. Results Laparoscopic intended 50 consecutive patients, median age 81 years. The conversion rate open 22 per cent. whom procedure completed 2·5 days; defaecation occurred 92 cent within 3 Patients mobilized more than 8 h daily day 2. Conclusion Recovery surgery improved considerably by combining protocol pain relief, oral © 2000 British Journal Surgery Society Ltd
