摘要: Purpose Cases of sudden loss central vision in eyes with silicone oil situ and after removal have been described. The aim this review is to present current data on toxicity the neuronal aspects retina as well Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi experience retinopathy (maculopathy). Methods A PubMed using terms "silicon oil" and/or "toxicity" "ganglion cell" "nerve fiber" was conducted identify case reports, series, original articles presenting from silicon oil. Timing visual loss, SD-OCT RNFL/GCC analysis, collected. Selected cases were pooled Vitreoretinal database further reinforce findings. Results Twenty-four papers identified (case/series/articles). earliest that met our criteria seemed report at time or removal; however, more recent studies described such 1 6 months tamponade situ. Since first description oil, all researchers describe a thinning perifoveal ganglion cells measured SD-OCT, while there no concordance far RNFL changes, some authors describing others thickening, but neither ever clearly associated loss. correlation between hyperreflective goblets inner histological intraretinal droplets migration seems suggest instances penetration retinal layers. Conclusion In small percentage who underwent can suffer direct damage either particles migrate contact it. Indirect may be caused by phototoxicity due transparent nature inflammatory cytokines sandwiched retina.
