摘要: Environmental monitoring and bioremediation of imperilled habitats, more in general disturbed sites, are amongst the focus keys European strategies for territory management (see Horizon 2020, new Program Research Innovation). The anthropogenic disturbance is acting on ecosystems with serious consequences environment human health, driving strong social economic impacts community. Often, such case chemical petrochemical productions, areas subjected to most intensive industrialization located along coastline, being a severe threat marine environment. Recently, Italian Ministry Education, University funded project “SYSTEMS BIOLOGY”. Project articulated into two main phases: (1) field program evaluate effects toxic contaminants (e.g. heavy metals hydrocarbons) “sea sentinels” (organisms representing early living warning systems) purposely placed different contaminated areas; (2) series controlled mesocosms-scale experiments measure effects, same sea sentinels, remediation actions waters sediments collected from under inspection. aimed understand how xenobiotic contamination induces or modifies biological processes aquatic species, potential effectiveness biotechnological controlling reducing impact pollution compartment. Each phase accomplished through synergic collaboration multidisciplinary approach among eight research units constitutes pioneering advance international scenario.
