Tobacco smoking in relation to body fat mass and distribution in a general population sample.

摘要: OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of variable amounts tobacco smoking on body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio among current smokers. DESIGN: Population-based cohort study. SUBJECTS: A total 22 059 apparently healthy men women, who enrolled in Greek EPIC cohort, aged 25–84 years, had never smoked (14 751) or were cigarette smokers (7308). MEASUREMENTS: Body (by anthropomentry), amount energy expenditure an interviewer-administered, lifestyle questionnaire), intake ethanol validated, semiquantitative, food frequency at enrollment. RESULTS: In comparison to nonsmokers, average number cigarettes have lower index. Among smokers, however, increased tends be positively associated with index, particularly men. Waist-to-hip is per day, both women. CONCLUSION: ratio. Our data suggest that compared nonsmokers reflects personality characteristics those choose smoke tendency gain weight after cessation may behavioral rather than tobacco-related pharmacological roots.
