摘要: The region under study has been divided into three zones: A, Gulf of Cadiz, B, Alboran Sea, South Iberia and North Morocco, C, Northwest Algeria. Large earthquakes (Mw ~ 7- 8) occur in both its ends (zones A C), lesser magnitude central part (zone B). Most the foci are shallow (h < 50 km), though there exists an important activity at intermediate depth (50 h 150 km) Cadiz west a nest very deep 650 south Durcal, Granada. focal mechanism points to change stress pattern resulting reverse faults zone C strike-slip north Morocco normal Sea Spain. However, entire is subject uniform horizontal compression NNW-SSE direction consequence convergence between Eurasia Africa. crustal strain rate determined from seismicity shows different behavior seismic release zones.
