Colon perforation during attempted barium enema reduction of intussusception.

摘要: In reviewing the records of almost 1000 infants and children with intussusception in two children's hospitals over last 25 yr, there have been seven bowel perforations during attempted hydrostatic barium enema reduction an intussusception. Except for one instance, these all occurred 6 yr. The were mo old or less most had a preceeding viral illness. Only 4 7 pain, vomited, only 2 was mass felt but 1 rectal bleeding. duration signs symptoms longer than 36 hr ill 3 days. All abdominal x-rays that showed complete small obstruction. Once suspected, without excessive pressure not prolonged time; ileocolic intussusceptions met transverse colon minimal produced. It at this time perforation suddenly noted. required immediate right hemicolectomy area (s) colonic necrosis. Postoperatively, wound infections, volvulus which left child short gut another infant suffered severe brain damage. These babies seem to fit pattern they are younger sicker average intussusception, facts may be warning such increased risk perforation.
