摘要: The world was shocked in early 2003 when a pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) imminent. outbreak this novel disease, caused by coronavirus (the SARS-coronavirus), hit hardest the Asian Pacific region, though eventually it spread to five continents. speed SARS epidemic unprecedented due highly efficient intercontinental transportation. An international collaborative effort through World Health Organization (WHO) has helped identify aetiological agent about 1 month after onset epidemic. power molecular biology and bioinformatics enabled complete decoding viral genome within weeks. Over 1000 publications on phylogeny, epidemiology, genomics, laboratory diagnostics, antiviral, immunization, pathogenesis, clinical management accumulated just year. Although exact animal reservoir virus how evolved into human pathogen are still obscure, accurate diagnosis epidemiological control disease now possible. This article reviews what is currently known disease.
