摘要: We describe radial velocity observations of a large sample apparently single white dwarfs (WDs), obtained in long-term effort to discover close double-degenerate (DD) pairs, which might comprise viable Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) progenitors. augment the WD with previously observed subdwarf B (sdB) stars, are believed evolve directly cooling sequence after cessation core helium burning. have identified 18 new variables, including five confirmed sdB + short-period pairs. Our general agreement predictions theory binary star evolution. numerical method evaluate detection efficiency survey and estimate number systems not detected because effects varying orbital inclination, phase at epoch first observation, actual temporal sampling each object sample. Follow-up progress solve for parameters candidate variables.
