摘要: The United States emerged from World War II as the acknowledged global leader in basic science and its industrial application. While U.S. has been able to maintain that preeminence most areas, nation's technological lead met increasingly formidable challenges abroad. Although evidence on recent performance is mixed, other nations, especially Japan, have clearly gained ground high-technology production trade. future of thus a major focus public policy. This paper reviews high-techology industries, examines possible motives underlying government policies promote production, offers some guidelines for evaluating outcomes alternative policy regimes.
