摘要: An evolutionary approach to attractiveness judgments emphasi ses that many human trait preferences exist in order assist adaptive mate choice. Here we test an development hypothesis, whereby voice pitch indicating potential quality might arise or strengthen significantly during adolesce nce (when choice becomes adaptive). We used a longitudinal study of 250 adolescents investigate changes preferenc e for pitch, proposed marker quality. found stronger lower-pitched opposite-sex voices the older age group compared with younger (using different sets age-matched stimuli), and marginally increased comparing within-participant same set stimuli over course 1 year. also stability individual differenc es across nce: controlling age, raters who had than their peers lowerpitched when first tested, retained relative about year later. Adolescence provides useful arena evaluating hypotheses testing cues give rise behaviour.
