摘要: In the Netherlands, bulk of Miocene to lowest Pliocene sedimentary succession is currently assigned a single lithostratigraphical unit, Breda Formation. Although formation was introduced over 40 years ago, definition its lower and upper boundaries still problematic. Well-log correlations show that improved lecto-stratotype for Formation in well Groote Heide partly overlaps with additional reference section older Veldhoven nearby Broekhuizenvorst. The distinction between overlying Oosterhout Formation, which mainly based on quantitative differences glauconite molluscs, gives rise ongoing discussion, particular due varying concentrations glauconitic content occur within both formations. addition, lacks regional-scale stratigraphic framework relates various regionally locally defined shallow marine continental members. order resolve these issues, we performed renewed analyses material from several archived cores. results new dinocyst were combined lithological descriptions wire-line log multiple wells, including wells this process, updated zonation Munsterman & Brinkhuis (2004), recalibrated Geological Time Scale Ogg et al. (2016), used. To establish consistent lithostratigraphic boundaries, data used along transect across Roer Valley Graben running central part (well St-Michielsgestel-1) towards southern rift shoulders Goirle-1). Along transect, chronostratigraphic integrated well-log correlation seismic reflection constrain geometrical/structural relationships as well. led differentiation two distinct sequences distinguished by three recognisable unconformities: Early Unconformity (EMU), Mid-Miocene (MMU) Late (LMU). major regional hiatus, referred Unconformity, occurs intercalated present compels subdivision unit into formations, viz. here newly established younger Diessen Pending further studies, former will be temporally raised rank Hilvarenbeek subgroup, comprises Whereas already defined, third sequence LMU represents units, named Goirle Tilburg members, positioned study at base Besides their unique characteristics, profiles members stand out because facies. Use an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, North Sea more comprehensive Neogene successions proposed make (cross-border) straightforward future.
