摘要: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) in Asians has been suggested to differ from their Western counterparts terms of epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation and treatment. In particular, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) appears be the predominant subtype exudative AMD Asian populations, contrast neovascularization secondary (CNV-AMD) populations. Epidemiological data on PCV largely limited hospital-based studies there are currently no incidence PCV. Similarities differences risk factor profile between CNV-AMD point some shared pathogenic mechanisms but also differential underlying leading development each phenotype. Serum biomarkers such as CRP, homocysteine matrix metalloproteinases suggest inflammation, atherosclerosis deranged extracellular metabolism possible mechanisms. addition, recent advances genome sequencing have revealed genetic determinants subtype. While standard care for is anti-vascular endothelial growth (VEGF) therapy, photodynamic therapy (PDT) mainstay treatment PCV, although long-term visual prognosis remains unsatisfactory. The optimal requires further clarification, particularly with different types anti-VEGF agents benefits reduced fluence PDT.
