摘要: During a site visit in my role as faculty advisor for social work students, the ­supervisor began discussion of case by saying, “We are keeping an eye on this one. We think he’s psychopath.” The female student then described man who came to therapy so he could have monogamous relationship. He himself having sexual addiction, picking up men and women at high-end department store, using cocaine Ecstasy occasion. His presentation was narcissistic grandiose, filled hour with expansive disorganized stories. felt anxious helpless she attempted engage him discussing his presenting problem. This process seemed futile because demonstrated no ability reflect convert every impulse into action. concept mentalization provides useful framework understanding ­guiding interventions clients like one assists countertransferential reactions that may lead therapeutic impasses (Fonagy, Gergely, & Target, 2008). acquisition reflective mentalizing stance is powerful developmental­ achievement enables individual regulate affects, rather than action drugs discharge feelings, client does.
