摘要: In a review of work on 10 the very numerous lakes English Lake District — which involved co-operation between palaeolimnologists from different disciplines and palaeo- neolimnologists questions asked by researchers are listed it is shown kind lake has provided constructive answers. Complete conformable sediment profiles covering last ca 14000 years found in these lakes, but no single profile optimal for study whole period. Knowledge pattern accumulation necessary before record microfossils changing composition can be interpreted with confidence. The demonstration that sediment-source material open must have been largely allochthonous established importance column as changes through time stability soils each catchment. These illustrate influence of: i. Climatic changes, glacial to temperate interstadial followed renewed glaciation (Younger Dryas) then long (postglacial) state, during stream run-off deposition indicate precipitation wind-induced turbulence. ii. Processes pedogenesis, determining material. iii. Changes aquatic terrestrial biota response climatic interacting biological processes; major coincide land use man over 5000 years, more recent associated dates human discharges into airborne pollutants.
