摘要: Research for evaluation of geologic hazards involving earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in southern Argentina seems to have historically received little attention. Nevertheless, the relatively small work done indicates a Neogene tectonic architecture area with capability generating potential hazardous growing population region. Seismicity some morphotectonic evidences Quaternary activity Magallanes–Fagnano left-lateral fault system transform boundary between South America Scotia plates, are analysed this paper. This is considered be an important seismogenic source, responsible large that occurred Argentina. Some examples from Austral Andean Volcanic Zones also examined order show recent which generated crustal seismicity. Preliminary hazard estimation clearly shows presence both potentially active centres Patagonia may trigger seismicity high probability earthquake generation. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
