摘要: An experiment using 40 Angus or Brahman X preconditioned feeder calves was conducted to evaluate the influence of shipping on cellular immune reactivity. Steers were allotted basis weight and breed a control shipped group. Shipped steers trucked 700 km feedlot; remained at ranch origin. Total differential leukocyte counts, phytohemagglutinin skin-test responses, lymphocyte blastogenic monocyte phagocytic function, packed cell volumes concentrations plasma cortisol determined before, immediately after 1 wk shipment. At unloading, total leukocytes increased (P less than .05) in steers. also had higher .01) numbers neutrophils. Skin-test responses steers, but did not reaction. Lymphocyte lower steers; however, levels elevated greater .10) calves. Monocyte phagocytosis volume influenced by shipping. These data suggest that have suppressed responses.
