摘要: As land use change continues to increase throughout the Amazon basin, there is a pressing need accurately map, quantify and assess effects of different factors on forest cover (FCC). Land tenure may sometimes have important cover, yet such remain poorly understood in Amazonia, particularly outside Brazil. In this paper we whether significant differences trends FCC can be partially explained by arrangements, using case study southwestern Beni (Bolivian Amazon). We examine spatio-temporal dynamics across four systems (indigenous titled territory, protected area, logging concession, private land) classifying forests time-series Landsat satellite imagery consisting dates (1986, 1996, 2001, 2009). Specifically, unravel (1) early growth old-growth extent, including changes total annual rates, spatial dynamics, (2) fragmentation. To better understand association between FCC, qualitatively potential role that other underlying proximate drivers had over period. found lands underwent, far, largest indigenous territories area little concessions were responsible for lowest FCC. Our findings suggest played key except areas, where many operated. sheds light into has implications public policies aimed at socioeconomic development environmental conservation Amazon. give some policy recommendations drawn from biocultural perspective could contribute implement more inclusive region.
