摘要: OBJECTIVES To determine if there is an association between hearing loss and poorer cognitive scores on Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to poor acuity affects scoring the screening tests of MMSE MoCA. METHODS One hundred fourteen elderly patients (Singapore residents) aged 55 86 years were sampled. Participants completed a brief history questionnaire, pure tone audiometry, 2 tests-the Average thresholds better ear in frequencies 0.5, 1, 2, 4 kHz used for data analysis. RESULTS Hearing was significantly associated with Poisson regression models adjusted age. shown decrease by 2.8% (P = .029), MoCA 3.5% (P = .013) every 10 dB loss. Analysis hearing-sensitive components "Registration" "Recall" using chi-square showed performance group as compared normal group. Phonetic analysis target words high error rates shows that likely contributed decreased acuity, top possible true deficit cognition impaired. CONCLUSIONS MoCA, confounded ability. This highlights important, often overlooked aspect sensory impairment during screening. Provisions should be made when testing hearing-impaired population avoid over-referral subsequent misdiagnoses impairment.
