Cognitive Schemas as Mediating Variables of the Relationship Between the Self-Defeating Personality and Depression

摘要: The current investigation was designed to examine particular maladaptive cognitive schemas as mediating variables of the relationship between self-defeating personality and depression. A total 82 mildly severely depressed adult outpatients, referred for counseling psychotherapy services, were assessed in terms schema characteristics. Results indicated that 57% variance within depression, measured by Beck Depression Inventory (Beck, Rush, Shaw, & Emery, 1979), accounted five schemas: abandonment/instability; defectiveness/shame; failure; subjugation; vulnerability harm. Further, mediation analyses abandonment/instability defectiveness/shame statistically mediated are discussed light contemporary theories
