摘要: A mesophilic acetogenic bacterium (MPOB) oxidized propionate to acetate and CO2 in cocultures with the formate- hydrogen-utilizing methanogens Methanospirillum hungatei Methanobacterium formicicum. Propionate oxidation did not occur two Methanobrevibacter strains, which grew only hydrogen. Tricultures consisting of MPOB, one organisms are able convert formate into H2 plus (Desulfovibrio strain G11 or homoacetogenic EE121) also degraded propionate. The absence methanogens, was couple conversion fumarate reduction. This inhibited by hydrogen formate. Formate blocked energetically unfavorable succinate involved catabolism. Low concentrations required for syntrophic degradation MPOB. In triculture aceticlastic Methanothrix soehngenii, faster than biculture hungatei, indicating that low favorable as well.
