摘要: Coliform bacteria were isolated from raw sewage and effluent-receiving waters tested for their antibiotic susceptibility patterns ability to transfer resistance Escherichia coli K-12 C600. An environmental isolate of E. (MA527) capable transferring C600 was mated, both in vitro situ, with an antibiotic-sensitive (MA728). In situ matings conducted modified membrane diffusion chambers, the degritter tank at Grant Street (Melbourne, Fla.) treatment facility, Melbourne, Fla. The frequencies 3.2 x 10(-5) 1.0 10(-6), compared 1.6 10(-4) 4.4 observed vitro. Transfer shown occur but not detected waters. presence a 60-megadalton plasmid species donor transconjugants, recipients, provided physical evidence situ.
