Implementation, barriers and challenges of smoke-free policies in hospitals in Egypt.

摘要: Tobacco use is a serious public health challenge in North Africa, and professionals play vital role tobacco control. In Egypt, limited data are available on the knowledge attitudes of care providers regarding control policies. Such especially relevant due to Egypt’s laws, adopted 2007, prohibiting smoking hospitals other places. This study surveyed 49 senior administrative staff, 267 physicians, 254 nurses, 109 employees working El-Kasr El-Aini Hospital Cairo, assessing their laws barriers effective implementation facilities. We also investigated hospital’s compliance with smoke-free The majority (>90%) hospital workers knew that exposure second-hand smoke harmful health. Physicians nurses had more favorable attitude towards ban when compared employees. staff identified following successfully implementing ban: lax enforcement lack penalties for violators, cessation programs, prevalence among physicians. Overall, policies were poorly enforced this large teaching Egypt. Interventions address could include provision training services as well communication programs educate at all levels dangers measures protection.
