摘要: Quantification of asymmetry is a common objective in both research and clinical settings. The most method for quantification discrete variables calculation the symmetry index. Essentially measure percent difference between sides, index requires choice reference value. This limitation as value not always clear, can lead to inconsistent results artificially inflated values. Therefore, purposes current study were examine limitations depth, define new quantifying that robust those (the angle), compute correlations two measures. showed that, when using index, interpretation be highly affected by angle does require it prone same limitations. While values tend smaller than values, measures are very correlated. suggests good substitute Future studies may benefit from use angle, equally effective identifying intra-limb differences but problems due normalization provides standard scale (±100%) interpret results.
