Are we really detecting violence in families of children visiting our health services? The experience of a public health service in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

摘要: Domestic violence, particularly in childhood, is a growing public health concern. Information on morbidity mostly underreported due to constraints case detection. This paper analyzes the frequency of events measured actively by outpatient services as compared spontaneous reports. violence was assessed for 245 families from April June 2001 using Conflict Tactics Scales: Parent-Child Version (CTSPC) and Revised Scales (CTS2). Cases referred Social Work Department provided caseload active search period (12 months). There high prevalence physical couple, with serious occurring 17.0% families. In relation children, cases "minor" aggression were reported 46.0% 9.9%. The spontaneously identified 3.3%. study demonstrates missed opportunities detection calls attention need review approach domestic services.
