摘要: Observations of the electric field at frequencies from 2-128 Hz, using burst mode spherical double probe on ISEE 1, have been examined for a time period previously identified as containing traversal near-earth neutral line past satellite. Intense waves (3 to over 30 mV/m) approximately half lower hybrid frequency were observed throughout plasma sheet boundary, but only during large dc and E x B velocity associated with substorm line. The wave number deduced linear fits data was comparable inverse electron gyroradius. These results are consistent lower-hybrid drift instability. Although peaks between ion sometimes simultaneously, integrated power below 100 Hz usually least one two orders magnitude greater than that above Hz. theoretical work has suggested instability would be suppressed sheet, largest occurred right when southward component magnetic 6 gamma. could provide an anomalous resistivity about (3-1000) 10 -7th S (compared classical value 1 -18th S).
