摘要: The photosystem II core complex (PSIIcc) is a complicated membrane protein occurring in oxygenic photosynthetic organisms that catalyzes key reaction, the light-induced oxidation of water. It consists 17 membrane-spanning α-helical and three membrane-extrinsic subunits binds nearly 100 cofactors. Among them heme composed one b group ligated by two low molecular weight with transmembrane helix each, referred to as cytochrome (cyt) b559. Despite extensive research, role cyt b559 PSIIcc still not known. In present chapter, structure reviewed based on recent crystallographic work together its unusually redox behavior, some ideas are discussed concerning possible function this unique protein.
