摘要: British Columbia is in the midst of largest outbreak mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopk. [Coleoptera: Scolytidae]) ever recorded western Canada. Mature lodgepole (Pinus contorta Dougl. ex Loud. var. latifolia) trees form bulk under attack. The carries several specific blue stain fungi that decrease wood moisture content and weaken tree defense mechanisms, eventually leading to death. Blue develops quickly sapwood dying trees. It appears products made from stained logs, affecting what can be profitably sold. Infested also dry develop splits checks as drying stresses are relieved. physical condition affects how it processed. This chapter discusses current knowledge properties post-mountain wood, its use marketing. draws upon information literature research Canada pertains dead wood. Implications for various discussed, significant data gaps identified, recommendations bridge these gaps.
