摘要: Toxic heavy metal ions are removed from water by electrochemical replacement as the flows through a tandem bed of (a) activated zinc and then (b) magnesium alloyed with minor amount manganese to inhibit corrosion. The is contact noble salt. Preferably, fine granules Mg/Mn used. Clogging prevented intermittent vacuum degassing beds. advantageously prepackaged stored in cartridges which become part processing column. cartridge has non-reactive atmosphere e.g., argon, retained frangible or soluble barriers that hermetically seal ends cartridge. torn away dissolved initial flow when installed. System scale-up simplified "half-length" concept characteristic present invention. Specifically, ion concentration reduced one-half for each additional fixed distance ("half-length") traversed reactant bed.
