摘要: Spreading depression (SD), a self-propagating wave of astroglial and neuronal depolarization, is an accompaniment several neurological disorders including epilepsy. Its well-described features are initial followed by EEG flattening. In this in vivo study awake animals, the relationship SDs to epileptiform activity was re-examined. We assessed generated mechanical stimulation metabolic inhibition with fluorocitrate. addition identifying prolonged depression, we identified two periods, one prior another during characterized increases power specific frequencies that were sometimes associated discharges. The first period ripple close induction site (88% intracortical electrodes). second localized low-frequency spikes (100% dural screw electrodes, 65% By using fluorocitrate induce SDs, also runs (52%). Finally, induced both methods, there at end when additional, unprovoked occurred (20%). Five stages SD defined these phenomena, order: excitation, SD, enhancing expression spiking.
