Effective Targeted Photothermal Ablation of Multidrug Resistant Bacteria and Their Biofilms with NIR-Absorbing Gold Nanocrosses

摘要: With the rapid evolution of antibiotic resistance in bacteria, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (in particular, multidrug-resistant bacteria) and their biofilms have been becoming more difficult to be effectively treated with conventional antibiotics. As such, there is a great demand develop nonantibiotic approach efficiently eliminating such bacteria. Here, multibranched gold nanocrosses strong near-infrared absorption falling biological window, which heat up quickly under near-infrared-light irradiation are presented. The conjugated secondary primary antibodies for targeting PcrV, type III secretion protein, uniquely expressed on superbug, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. capable completely destroying P. aeruginosa its upon 5 min an 800 nm laser at low power density ≈3.0 W cm(-2) . No bacterial activity detected after 48 h postirradiation, indicates that generated from irradiated plasmonic attached effective preventing re-growth Overall, allow targeted photothermal ablation localized region reduced nonspecific damage normal tissue.
