摘要: ARE PUBLIC SCHOOLS WORTH SAVING? IF SO, BY WHOM? by Philip Kovacs While there is a loose coalition of individuals and organizations attacking the institution public schools, does not appear to be coordinated defense schools. Without institution, schools will arguably 1) grow increasingly regulated and/or 2) shut down altogether. Given that progressive scholars believe should exist maintain pluralistic participatory democracy, or continue, goal democracy through education becomes removed from possibility. The failure educational reformers enter same spheres as think tank foundation-housed neointellectuals partially blame for corporatist ideology governing school reform. such Henry Giroux call “new articulations,” new languages, theories, I problem lies in message but progressives promote their ideas various public, private, legislative spheres. In order defend sites generation maintenance democratic social order, this research investigates possibility reformers, acting prophetic pragmatists, can save publicly politically check, counter, silence antidemocratic initiatives forwarded neoconservative neoliberal reformers.
