摘要: The selenocompound Ebselen (PZ 51) is a potent inhibitor of lipid peroxidation. This antioxidant effect has been previously attributed both to peroxidase mimetic activity and free radical scavenging capability. In the present paper latter ruled out by competition kinetic analysis based on inhibition carotenoid bleaching hydroperoxyl radicals. Furthermore, evidence reported indicating that exhibits extended cholesterol ester hydroperoxides, besides phospholipid hydroperoxides. According this, we propose unique mechanism capacity reduction hydroperoxides in liposomes or lipoproteins, eventually leading prevention hydroperoxide-dependent
